Places to Eat in Atlanta: Grana, a Southern-Style Italian Restaurant

I finally made my way over to Grana and had a great time visiting! If you’re looking to add a new spot to your list of places to eat in Atlanta, Grana should be on it. Grana serves southern-style Italian cuisine and offers the “best meatballs in Atlanta.”

Places to Eat in Atlanta: Grana

Address: 1835 Piedmont Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30324

It’s one of those places where the decor looks almost as good as the food. The interior of Grana has an open kitchen, a bar space, dining hall, and a mezzanine floor. They also have additional seating in their patio out in front of the restaurant and on their rooftop. The rooftop adds the perfect touch for summer hangouts. There is an additional bar on the rooftop with cozy fire pits for your party to gather around. When I visited, their bathrooms had an Italian lesson playing over the speakers. I appreciated this as I for sure fumbled over the Italian pronunciation of words when I was ordering off the menu.

The Food

My first visit to Grana was during their happy hour (3-6pm everyday). To start, our table ordered their tasty mozzarella garlic bread. Their garlic bread is more of a flat-bread style, rather than the traditional one I imagined. Grana’s got a sign up that says they serve the best meatballs in Atlanta, so I was excited to give them a try as well. I ordered the Brasstown Beef meatballs that are served with gouda, red onion & black truffle jam.

During happy hour their pizzas are priced at $10. I went for the cacio e pepe pizza because it looked like a creative combination of flavors. You can never go wrong with wood-fired pizza, and when the thin crust, fresh creamy cheese is combined with lemon zest and black pepper you have done yourself a favor.

For dessert, I was hoping they would have tiramisu on the menu. They don’t šŸ™ But, they do have cannoli’s! So if you have any room left over for dessert you should get one. The cannoli menu is ‘build your own’ style, and I got mine with oreos and powdered sugar. My friend went for a chocolate dipped one with candied pecans.

The food here didn’t disappoint, and I found their staff to be very pleasant and friendly. The next time I visited I headed to the rooftop for drinks and there is a nice vibe up there as well. The rooftop is lined with cute string lights and has a somewhat nice view of the surrounding area (there isn’t much to see to be honest, but its the vibe that counts).

Overall, I had a great time at Grana and enjoyed my experience. I’m sure I’ll be returning for another pizza party here at some point. I imagine as we get into the summer, their rooftop will become a good option to hang out as well. If you are looking for places to eat in Atlanta with good food, drinks, and vibes this is that spot.
