Atlanta Coffee Shops: Golden Drops Cafe

Coffee is such an important part of many of our days. Now that I’m back in school, I’m happy my classmates introduced me to a great place to get work done and one that also provides the fuel to power through my studies. If you are looking to stop at one of Atlanta coffee shops, visit Golden Drops Cafe.

Golden Drops Cafe is located on Clairmont Rd in Decatur, right around the corner from Emory University. This place is a true gem with great coffee, superb service, delicious treats, sweets, and other food options!

The cafe has ample seating, with both indoor and outdoor patio options. As a student, I think it is a really nice spot to get some group studying in over a cup of one of their many options of coffee and teas. The barista, Juan and the owner, Victor are both incredibly friendly and even set aside some time to chat with me about the beginnings of the cafe. The cafe originally opened up in Beijing but was closed shortly after. After relocating, Golden Drops Cafe opened up on Clarimont Rd and has been serving the community since 2016.

Juan’s favorite part about working at Golden Drops is “speaking with the customers” and the little things, “like when they smile.” His favorite coffee is the Golden Latte, as “it is special and can’t be found anywhere else.” He also spent a week in Honduras as a judge in a national championship for baristas, so his coffee input is highly valued. My friend and I ordered two Golden Latte’s along with some empanadas.

Their Golden Latte is rich, flavorful, and delicious. Their specialty coffees are made with beans from El Salvador. Another thing that I really like about this place is their selection of baked goods and other snacks. Their menu is inspired by Victor’s home country of the Dominican Republic. One of the most popular street foods you can find in the Dominican Republic and throughout the Caribbean is the empanada, so of course it’s on the Golden Drops Menu.

I’m a huge fan of their cheese and guava empanada…to the point that I won’t walk into Golden Drops without ordering it. Some of my other favorites is their chicken empanadas, coxinha, and pao de queijo,

Golden Drops Cafe provides a great atmosphere, fantastic service, tasty food, and really unique and special drinks. It is an excellent shop and when you visit I highly recommend you chat with Victor and Juan about the shop’s history. The way they treat their customers and the pride the put in their food has easily made this my favorite cafe in the area. Out of the many Atlanta coffee shops, this is the one you have to add to your list.
